FC Barcelona 2 - 1 Valencia CF - Saturday,17/08/24

Match Summary

The Spanish League has kicked off, marking the beginning of Hansi Flick's reign with Barcelona. A positive start was evident right from the lineup selection. The coach displayed courage by fielding three seventeen-year-old players: Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, and Marc Bernal. The team faced difficulties in the initial half, notably the defensive line and the goalkeeper, as Valencia forwards relentlessly attacked. Valencia's striker Hugo Duro showcased his potential and aerial prowess by netting the opening goal just before halftime, outpacing Iñigo Martinez and beating Ter Stegen to put Valencia ahead 1-0. Fortunately, Barcelona swiftly responded, with Raphinha setting up a play on the left flank, leading to Alejandro Balde crossing from left to right for Lamine. Despite using his weaker foot, he managed to deliver a pass to the center, where our striker scored, leveling the score before the break.

The second half saw Barcelona taking control of the game, applying more effective high pressure on the ball. Raphinha was fouled by Valencia's Cristhian Mosquera, resulting in a penalty for Barcelona. Lewandowski stepped up and executed a superb penalty, placing the ball in the top-right corner, leaving Valencia's goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili with no chance. Tactical substitutions were made by the coach, handing official debuts to Gerard Martin and Pau Victor, who contributed to controlling the game. Despite creating more scoring chances, Barcelona couldn't find the back of the net against Valencia.

The era under Hansi Flick has commenced with a victory, providing optimism to build on and continue the hard work.

Man of the Match: Robert Lewandowski

The Barcelona forward scored twice, displaying glimpses of becoming the elite world-class player that all Blaugrana supporters are eager to witness this season. Additionally, Marc Casadó's performance stood out as he commanded the midfield, supported the team in both defense and attack, and had several opportunities to score.
